International Police Missions

Foreign Experts in Conflict-Affected States

Conflict-affected states have become a main site for international policing. This project seeks to shed light on the role of police experts as global governors. Located in International Relations and security studies, and drawing on police and organization studies, the project examines foreign police experts in multinational missions. We compare views on appropriate policing and foreign assistance held by several European police agencies and we investigate how international and transnational norms and standards govern police assistance. Drawing on this, we identify the causal mechanisms that drive practices in multinational missions.
