The IFSH is an interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Hamburg, funded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The research activities of IFSH focus on analyzing current developments and challenges for peace and security in Europe and beyond. The transfer of knowledge from research into politics and society is a fundamental part of the institute’s work.
For our Hamburg location, we are seeking a Student Assistant starting on November 15, 2025. The position is limited until April 30, 2026. The working time comprises 20 hours per month and will be remunerated according to the rate for student assistants at the University of Hamburg (€13.98/hour). A prerequisite for employment is current enrollment as a student at a state-recognized German university.
The position is offered within the editorial office of the Journal of Peace and Conflict Studies (ZeFKo), located in the Research Area “Societal Peace and Internal Security.” ZeFKo is the leading academic journal in peace and conflict research in the German-speaking world, providing a central forum for current research from various theoretical and methodological traditions on issues of peace, conflict, and violence. The editorial office at IFSH manages the review and publication of new contributions and is responsible for the journal’s strategic development.
Your mission
Supporting editorial processes such as issue planning, peer review, and publication procedures
Conducting formal editorial checks of manuscripts (citation style, spelling, bibliography)
Independently managing ZeFKo’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Bluesky)
Attending and taking minutes of editorial meetings and other ZeFKo-related events
Your profile
Enrolled in a BA program in Political Science or a related discipline
Interest in the field of peace and conflict research
Strong academic working skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in text work
Excellent German and English skills
Experience in managing social media channels
Initial experience in editorial work, particularly in text editing, is an asset
